Dan Mills of County Arts is the 2018 Bowls England National Junior Singles champion lifting the prestigious title on Sunday 19th August at Victoria Park Leamington Spa.

Dan opened with a comfortable 21-7 first round victory over Kurt Murray from Dorset and then followed this up with narrow 21-19 win over Bedfordshire’s Chris Beard and then 21-15 over Tom Newman of Wiltshire to reach the second day of the competition and the quarter final. In the quarter final Dan met Hampshire’s Danny Smith and a 21-14 victory put him into the semi-final against local rivals Suffolk represented by Lee Calver where a convincing 21-8 victory secured a place in the final against Lancashire’s Anthony Booth-Young. In the final Dan trailed 4-9 in the early exchanges, before a really good period of play saw him lead 16-12. Booth-Young then fought back and regained the lead at 18-17, before Dan picked up a full count of four to secure a 21-18 victory.

The County Arts Mixed team triumphed for the fourth year in a row to retain the Norfolk County Jermy Cup.
In the Semi-final they overcame Freethorpe 68-57, while in the other semi-final NBC overcame R G Carter 68-53.
The final was a tense affair on NBC’s own green, early on they had the advantage until Peter Wilkinson’s four, which included Sandra Curtis, Liz McMillan and Bob French hit a purple patch and finished by winning 31-14, and our other two rinks recovered from early set-backs, Brian Taylor’s rink with Doris Jenkins, Ray Fox and Sue Curtis lost by 5 shots, while Trevor Jermy’s rink of Pat Clarke, Helen Watkins and Ben Curtis, recovered to lose by one shot on the last end. All players played well on a fast running green to thoroughly deserve their victory.
